💸 Is It Worth It? Activewear Edition 💸

If you’ve scrolled on Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest or even just walked down the street lately you’ve probably noticed one thing: activewear is everywhere. It's become the Gen Z uniform. And if you’re anything like the She’s on the Money team? We live in ours. (No, seriously this article was written in a matching set.)

But while we love a cute pair of flares or a pastel-toned crop, we’ve got to be honest: activewear can be so expensive. And sometimes the quality? Kinda mid.

So we decided to ask the SOTM girls. What’s actually worth it when it comes to activewear? What makes a set go from a splurge to a staple?

Here’s what they had to say...

🛍️ What do you actually look for in activewear?

“Something without a front seam, but I do not like seamless activewear. I have a bigger chest, so seamless I don’t find supportive enough. I want something I can wear a big white T-shirt over to Pilates but feel good in.” – Brooke

“Depends what it is, but I’d say… comfy, not see-through, supportive, shorts that don’t roll or have a front seam. Basically, something that you can wear and not think about it. Usually black errrything, or espresso. Can’t pass up a good brown.” – Georgia

“Honestly, pockets in shorts for my phone and cute colours.” – Zara

“Something that’s not see-through and a style that I can also wear day to day (like a flare legging or oversized jumper) to make sure I can get maximum use out of my gear. I also am a total sucker for a pastel colourway.” – Jess

“Comfortable and versatile – the Lululemon activewear wide leg pants that double as dress pants have been a gamechanger for work/dressier events!” – Kiara

💵 What's your go-to budget for a set?

“Happy to spend $150 for a good quality crop and shorts.” – Brooke

“I wear activewear almost every day, so I’ll pay more for quality I trust. I don’t really budget specifically, but it’s definitely part of my fun money. If it lasts and fits well, I’m in.” – Georgia

“Probably around $120–$150 – feel like it's worth the money because I use it every day.” – Zara

“I don't have a set budget for activewear as it folds into my broader clothing budget, but I try to shop things on sale or with cashback as much as I can!” – Jess

“Usually happy to spend around $100–$150.” – Kiara

🏷️ What brands are you loving right now?

“Most of my activewear is small businesses, but I love Salt and Ripple & Lorna Jane.” – Brooke

“Lululemon + Crop Shop Boutique.” – Georgia

“I actually cannot pick between LSKD, Nimble and Lulu.” – Jess

“Upstate and Dfyne.” – Zara

“Lululemon and Jaggad (my fav leggings are from both these brands).” – Kiara

🧺 What’s your lowest cost-per-wear activewear piece?

“Definitely my blue matchy set from Salt and Ripple. I wear it at least once a week!” – Brooke

“I’ve got some Lululemon Fast and Free tights that are probably 10 years old and still in amazing condition.” – Georgia

“Blue flex set from Upstate.” – Zara

“My black flare leggings (I have a pair from LSKD and a pair from Nimble) and I wear them every single week!” – Jess

“My Lululemon Align leggings have been part of my OOTD at least 3 times a week!! From walks, shopping trips and Pilates – they've seen it all.” – Kiara

🧞‍♀️ What’s on your activewear wish list?

“I want to try CSB but worry it’s not big bust friendly.” – Brooke

“Some CSB Form Flare leggings. Manifesting them into my wardrobe.” – Georgia

“I realllly want some of the CSB stuff in the blush colourway so I can wear it to ballet.” – Jess

“Flare leggings – haven’t bought into the hype yet, but they look great on everyone!” – Kiara

So, is it worth it? When it comes to activewear, it really depends on you. Your lifestyle, your body, your budget. But if there's one thing we know for sure: the right set can make you feel like the main character in your Pilates class and your errands run. Now that’s worth it.
